Perfunctory attempt at blog post. Exaggerated.

doodle #2: 02.14.2007

I'm still sick.

I'm overwhelmed with work.

Today is the birthday of the Guy Best Friend.

Normally, he reads the Jill Blog religiously.

Right now, he's on the west coast, male bonding.

And doing whatever the hell other kind of sordid things he does when he's in L.A.

I don't know.

I don't ask.

Even the bare minimum of details from his escapades are usually enough for me to know it's time to make the story stop.

And I'm the girl who just wrote about making out with the insane designer - instructor in front of the vomitini.

1992. The GBF, then a stranger, shows up for play rehearsal with a cassette of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Chronicle (Vol. 1), in his pocket. We compare and contrast "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" and "Who'll Stop the Rain?" The rest is histor--

Nah, the rest is high school histrionics, and some silly self-obsessed neurotic cheerleader with a Virgin Mary complex trying to get me kicked out of school because she didn't know how to cope with the fact her life wasn't the Disney production she and her Stepford Mom were trying to make it out to be.

Oh, Pooh! Did I actually type that?

The things I do for my friends.

Happy birthday, Q.

  • Happy Birthday GBF! Going by this post, my calculations bring you in a 15 years of "Jill-service." Well done.

  • And, possibly, servicing Jill, depending on how you read it. Good times.

(Although, mostly all this post made me want to do was refer to someone as cupcake.)

    Feel better, Jill.

  • GSR, yep, 15 years of Jill. Think you can handle that? ;-)

Nah, -J,, forget the "servicing Jill". It's not like that. And you should--go call someone cupcake! It'll make you feel good!

  • No, I didn't figure it was based on something else I had read before.

I don't know. I think if I called my friend cupcake he'd punch me, or I'd punch him.

  • Happy B-Day to GBF! I hope you're feeling better soon!

  • Happy birthday to GBF. I hope you feel better.

  • Hope you get to feeling better!

  • Hey, two things:

First - Your comments on my blog always make me feel important.

Second - I hope you feel better. What kind of music or artists do you like? I could totally gin you up a "get well" playlist.

  • "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" is just a wonderful song. "Who'll Stop the Rain" is kind of Brady Bunch and depressing. Not really feeling that one.

I'm most of a "Down on the Corner" fan because of the cowbell and I do love the 15-minute version of "I've Heard it Through the Grapevine" which is almost as good as Marvin Gaye's version but it's a better version than Gladys Knight's and The California Raisins.

  • -J: Well, he has appeared on The Blog before (many times). Just not in the way your previous comment made it sound. Find a girl and call her cupcake, silly!

SANDrew: Will be your new name here. Do you mind? ;-) Thank you!

    Cheryl: I'm getting there, thanks!

    And thank you, too, Jessica!

You ARE important, Shafa! And if I were better at time management, I'd get to leave more random messages on your blog about The Oregon Trail. As for your question:

I like: good music! and above.
I don't like: mediocre music! and below.

Gifts of music are always appreciated. Unless it's Celine Dion.

Wassup, Corey? Yep, that's pretty much the conclusion we came to as well. If a person doesn't feel compelled to belt out "I want to know, have you ever seen the rain?" after hearing that song, I'm not sure I want to know them.

Okay, and now I just had this weird melding of your comment, wherein Peter Brady with his "When It's Time to Change" voice started singing "Who'll Stop the Rain?" And that was utterly surreal. And that means it's time for me to get some sleep. Thanks for that.

  • I have a theory that John Fogerty really only wrote five songs. He managed to make a lot of money off of them with all these different names, but you have Chromatic Walkdown in E (susie Q, etc), Sad Song in Am or Dm About Rain Or Bombs (your examples), Wow, We're In A Band (Playin' in A travelin' Band, etc.), Conflict With Nefarious Forces Song incl. Lame Lead Guitar Attempt (Run Through Jungle, Old Man Down The Road, Born On The Bayou, etc.), and I Can Too Play Lead and/or Weepy Ballads! (pretty much every other song with a solo or prison reference).

This is not to mean I don't like CCR. I find them reassuringly predictable and chicks dig them.

  • Casey, I think I want to marry you just a little bit after reading that.
