Top Twelve Reasons Why Jill Is a Geek (aka, Jill's Very Own Brand of "Cool")
1.Talking about the size of your external hard drive is exciting for me. And I literally mean "external hard drive." Not the figurative interpretation of the phrase.
2. I glow with love when I talk about my cell phone. Don't touch my laptop. And if you know what's good for you, you won't even cross your eyes at my iPod.
3. Can quote Shakespeare like some people quote baseball statistics. This comes in handy for freaking out my students. Can also quote baseball statistics like some people quote baseball statistics--which comes in equally handy for freaking out students, especially the male ones.
4. You know those people who are waiting outside the theater at 11pm for the sci-fi movie whose first screening is at midnight? Yeah? Well, I've probably made friends with the theater staff and they've let me in already.
5. My books are sorted according to genre; my CD collection is alphabetized. Or does this just make me obsessive-compulsive?
6. I think geometry is fun. Mathematical induction--nearly orgasmic.
7. Standardized tests are relaxing for me.
8. I've got Grease (just about the entire movie) memorized. I memorized the Saturday Night Fever choreography before DJs started forcing entire parties to "do the John Travolta dance."
9. People who don't learn correct song lyrics irritate me.
10. I occasionally talk about Middle Earth as if I've actually been there.
11. I carry a mag light and a Swiss army knife everywhere (except in my carry-on in airplanes, because security tends not to like that so much). Even in my Coach evening clutch that I fought over at the Key West Coach Outlet. You're laughing, but the flashlight came in handy when that girl behind us at the Giants Stadium concert lost her gold bracelet, didn't it? And what about the party where the hostess couldn't find the corkscrew? We were on the second bottle of Chianti by the time she came back from the kitchen.
12. This was a list of 11 until my friend Megan pointed out that making a list of reasons why you're a geek is a pretty geeky thing to do. Thanks, Megan.

I think this could also be a list of reasons of "Why We Like Jill". She's just so cool.

I have an 80GB external hard drive. Does that turn you on? It's silver and black...sound sexier now?
I know, I know. You would probably love it if it was even bigger!

Geometry is cool. I proved out my own theorem when I was in high school. I know what your thinking, "that sounds so hot right?" Wait Jill why are you backing away, did I say theorem, I meant Thermos I brought my own thermos! Wait come back!

Jill, respectfully, you are a light-weight. I have a Utilikey that I sneak onto airplanes and can do most things my Leatherman Micra can manage. The light on my keychain is an orange LED that slides easily by security and still is enough illumination to find lost screws under desks. (Yes, sometimes, I DO, in fact, have a loose screw. Thankfully, I can joke about it.) And, finally, the entire Internet is my external hard drive. I leave files all over, just so I can find them when I need them, wherever I might be.
I will not start on the whole Middle-Earth thing or I might swing wildly off the beaten path and start talking about Arrakis and the God-Emperor. Still, you're geeky enough to be on my top ten list of chicks I'm glad I know a little. I think that might be sad for you, though I did mean that as a compliment.

Brand new 300GB external hard drive and I'm proud of his...size! Sleek, silver and so sexy! And let's not talk of flash drives...

5 is clearly OCD but don't worry about it you're in good company.
6 frankly worries me - but it could explain my failure with the opposite sex. Maybe I should have tried harder at Maths?

Okay, may be i'm not geek enough, but what exactly, is the figurative interpretation of "external hard drive"???
are we talking porn here and i'm the only one left out?

I have a 3.5 inch floppy on my laptop. I always think it would be cool to have a 5.25 inch floppy, you know, just to play around with. In order to really do anything, though, you really nead a hard drive (or one of those removeable plug-and-play attachments).
I mean all of this in the figurative sense.
I hate to burst your bubble, but you're just too pretty to be a hard-core geek. It's too hard for the Dungeon Master to concentrate on the battle sequence with chicks like you hanging around distracting the poor, desperate guy.
Hello, Jill.

I love the idea of using Shakespeare and B/B stats as verbal flourishes.
Moving to NY is becoming a serious option so I can be Tutored by Jill.

hmmmm, some of this sounds like me. My theory is everyone is geeky about something (or things). And I totally hear you on #9.

[bad porn star voice]
Who needs an external hard drive when you have 160GB of all-natural, internal goodness? Anybody with an external is just buying their size. It's all an illusion. Don't you prefer someone who has a large fully functional hard drive that is factory installed?
Oh yeah!

3T: Thanks!
-J: For real? :)
Diamondkt: I am a fan of the black and silver look, I must say.
Croaker: Don't tease me. I seriously love geometry.
Network Geek: I prefer to think of it as "mild to moderate geekiness". I'm not really hardcore about anything.
CB: Oh, but I LOOOOOVE talking of flash drives! I had a near freak-out when I couldn't locate mine this morning.
Further on...: I don't know; I just really like math.
Treespotter: Yes, I was referring to the pornographic interpretation.
Scott: Hello! I had to reread that after you said you meant it figuratively. Heh. So is that why no one ever invites me to play D&D with them?
Wombat: Maybe we ought to schedule 10 sessions and see how they work out before you make a commitment. ;)
Amber: Thank you. I find you endearing as well, Word Nerd.
Cheryl: Perhaps everyone is, but not everyone will admit it!
Kilax: Yeah, it takes a special kind of geek to spend the amount of time that I have spent in multiplexes.
Kapgar: EXCELLENT point! And great porn star impression!

I was really feeling it while doing that voice impersonation. I was on the verge of growing one of those little pornstar mustaches just to complete the image. Actually, I could already have it if I just shaved off a majority of my goatee. So close...

LOL, nothing wrong with being a geek. Dare I say if we weren't all geeks we wouldn't be blogging?
So Sci-Fi++ but Grease? RUN AWAY!

I thought I could sense geekdom, though in your 'about me' this is clearly labeled :)
Regarding #4, I get there a little bit early sometimes (8am for the last Star Wars; 6pm for 'The Two Towers'). I kind of like hanging out in line with my fellow nerds... actually, that was the best part of my experience when I saw 'Episode III'.
I agree on tests, though essay exams relax me the most... I hear the word 'blue book' and it feels like an 'A' :)
Love 'Grease', but I memorised 'Phantom' instead... oh, if I could sing.
Great list over all... I also love to compile strange and unusual lists, especially when prompted to do so, but sometimes for no reason at all. It must be a nerd thing :)
