Snow.

Each room is brighter, aglow. It's the reflection, I know, off the snow outside--streaming in the windows, illuminating the curtains and corners and crevices. I see things I couldn't have discerned a day ago, notice things previously immaterial. Value them.

I don't want you to melt away--gone without so much as good-bye, darkness without warning.

Yet neither would I choose the sloppy gray--hopping, jumping, tip-toeing, fearful of where I might stick my foot this time.

  • Wow, that is usually exactly how I feel about snow. Except by the end of March...then I just want it gone already.

  • I hate it when the snow melts in Texas. It usually happens on impact. When it does accumulate a little, it's a precious thing. I'm always torn between letting the children enjoy it and leaving it pristine and lovely.

Like most things, snow is only good for a little while, and is more appreciated if it's rare.

Your reflection on snow has illuminated my day. Although I'd love to linger, I must away into darkness.

    Hello, Jill.

  • The blanket of innocence indeed.

  • I really want to read one of your plays, Jill.

  • I'll be wanting this snow to go away very soon, Cheryl.

    Hello from the snow, Scott.

    Sass: Ahhhhh.

M.A.: And I want you to be my new friend! I've been meaning to send you an email. I've got to go teach, and then, if I can function well enough when I return, I shall. Otherwise, you will hear from me after I've hibernated.

  • We've yet to have a single flake.

Well, scratch that. We've lots of flakes, just not of the cold, white, every one unique, precipitation variety.

I really want a storm before this winter leaves town.

And also? Have been looking for your (abridged) "list". Alas, I must be missing it. Would love to compare fictional fantasies if you would be so kind as to point me in the right direction.

  • Beautiful.

  • There is nothing so gorgeous as the fresh dusting of snow...which melts, catches pollution and becomes some of the ugliest coatings you can imagine...but when it's fresh and the cold wind pinks you cheeks for...ohhh...about 20 mins it's great...then it's where is a beach, and get me a margarita.

  • "I don't want you to melt away--gone without so much as good-bye, darkness without warning." no... and especially don't melt away from me...

  • We've had a great deal of snow in Idaho this winter. It snowed almost all day today. It melts in the valley and makes mud soup, which is miserable to run in. So I really don't like the snow here in the valley - that's easy for me, though, as the nearby hills are inundated with it and are easy to get to when I want to play.

You have a blog that is very entertaining and fun to read.

  • Jennifer: Click on Jill's homepage in the sidebar. On my homepage, the blue icons are the menu choices. Mouse-over them and look for "Lists." On the lists page, the fictional character thing will be listed in the sidebar. Can't wait to compare!

    Thanks, Brooke.

Yes, Indiana, I could use a beach and a margarita (or a few) right about now.

CB: Oh, how you understand me.

    Thank you Cheri!

  • I agree with Indy, (God help me) Give me the beach any day. :)

  • I like snow best when it remains pure and untouched. The glisten, the glow. It almost makes me feel happy for some reason. It's like waking up in a new place when the world outside your window is covered in white.

By Blogger DIAMONDKT, At 2/16/2006 04:24:00 PM

  • I'll give you the beach, Steph, if you promise to share.

Diamondkt: it definitely does seem like waking up in a new place. I love that feeling. Also, the feeling of no one expecting you to rush anywhere. That makes it even more different of a place.

  • My homies love snow. It's beautiful stuff you know.

  • Did I miss something? What's up with you and your homies today?
